Michif in the Classroom
Bi-Weekly Meetings Online (October - March)
Michif, the distinct Indigenous language of the Métis, combines elements from the French and Cree languages spoken by Métis ancestors. Developed initially as an oral language, Michif has since evolved into a written language.
The Rupertsland Centre for Teaching and Learning is dedicated to revitalizing Michif in Alberta through a range of educational resources, including courses, videos, and more, designed to support lifelong learners from all backgrounds.
Michif in the Classroom is an RCTL Initiative offering:
- Virtual meetings with Michif speakers and K-12 educators.
- Opportunities for Métis and non-Métis K-12 educators to participate.
- Instruction in speaking, reading, and writing introductory Michif.
- Strategies for integrating Michif into K-12 learning communities for everyday use.
